CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — “Much Ado about Nothing,” a comedy by William Spakespeare, will be performed by the Campbellsville University Theater department Feb. 21-23 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. in the Russ Mobley Theater of the Alumni Building, 114 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.
Nathan Allen, an adjunct instructor in human performance and theater, is directing the play.
The main plot of the play revolves around two sets of lovers, Benedick and Beatrice and Claudio and Hero. Claudio and Hero are a sweet young people who are madly in love and practically speechless of their love for one another. The love-hate relationship of Beatrice and Benedick features the “merry war” of the sexes. They depict extreme shallowness and scorn of love and marriage.
The play follows the adventures of the two couples.
The leading cast members are: senior Singrid Tipton of Lawrenceburg, Ky. as Beatrice; senior Dakota Rogers of Harrodsburg, Ky. as Benedick; sophomore Michaela Parker of Oak Grove, Ky. as Hero and freshman Nathan Cahall of Oneida, Ky. as Claudio.
In “Much Ado about Nothing” there are 15 supporting cast members led by seniors Megan Hill of Springfield, Ky. as Margaret; Ian Shepard of Somerset, Ky. as Don John and Cody Szymanel of Lorain, Ohio as Seacole.
The support cast also includes: freshman Tyler Abney of Science Hill, Ky. as Balthasar; freshman Taylor Campbell of Hodgenville, Ky. as Messenger; freshman Lane French of Harrodsburg, Ky. as Don Pedro; junior Michael Jennings of Edmonton, Ky. as Leonato;
Sophomore Megan Kist of Elizabethtown, Ky. as Ursula; sophomore Amy Lair of Monticello, Ky., as Oatcake; freshman Matt Lewis of Mayfield, Ky. as Borachio; sophomore Alia McClendon of Radcliff, Ky. as 40’s Entertainer;
Senior Don Smith of Campbellsville as Dogberry; junior Katie Terry of Federalsburg, Md. as Dancer; sophomore Billie Jean Walker of Louisville, Ky. as Watchman and freshman Zach Wilson of Campbellsville as Verges.
Assisting Allen in the production are Matt Nall, assistant director of theater at CU, as production manager/crew; Starr Garrett, assistant professor of theater and theater director, as technical director and Courtney Waddles, a freshman from Whitesburg, Ky. as stage manager.
Freshman Jennifer Coffey of Louisville, Ky., sophomore Amy Lair of Monticello, Ky. and Steven Yospur of Friendswood, Texas are doing set construction/painting; freshman Jordan McMurray of Greenville, Ind., light operator; freshman Sarah Mortensen of Hodgenville, Ky. set construction/painting/props and set dressing; and freshman Rebecca Noel of Bardstown, Ky. assistant stage manager.
