|Bill Guffey paints landscapes as the majority
of his work.
Guffey paints many different types of subjects, but landscapes tend to take the lead in percentages. He starts most of his landscapes on location, and while some are completed outside in one sitting, others get finished in the studio.
Guffey completes over 100 paintings per year on average. He believes the outdoor work adds character to the artist and the art alike.
His work is collected the world over by corporations and individuals, with some larger works hanging in the offices of the Google Corporation in the San Francisco and London locations.
There have been dozens of interviews with Guffey regarding his paintings and techniques, and various projects he has taken on over the last few years. These interviews, including newspaper, magazine, television and radio, can been seen on his website under the Press heading at http://www.bnguffey.com.
He participates in many shows and competitions each year, including the All Kentucky Juried Fine Art Exhibition; the Annual Holiday Miniatures Exhibition at the Abend Gallery in Denver, Colorado; First Brush of Spring in New Harmony, Indiana; artist residency in Breckenridge, Colorado; and numerous other locations.
Recently Guffey received a third place award at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art Plein Air Paint Out; an Honorable Mention at the 2013 All Kentucky Juried Exhibition, and a Merit Award and Best of Show, respectively, at the 7th Annual Artworks Inc. Members Exhibition.
Guffey has been experimenting with Google’s Street View technology for a few year. Finding inspiration through his virtual travels, he has completed several series of works, has organized a virtual monthly paintout with artists from around the world, and continues to push past his comfort zone with more ideas and series in the works.
Hailed by Google for his inspiring use of their technology, Google Street View product manager Stephen Chau says, “Bill’s use of Street View, to inspire his paintings and to create a virtual community of artists, is a remarkable example that we hadn’t imagined but are really excited to see."
Guffey has hosted a project called the Virtual Paintout for almost four years now, inviting other artists from around the world to join him at a location he chooses each month. Hundreds of artists have participated, and continue to do so.
The gallery’s hours are contingent on student scheduling and will be set soon. If you want to visit, contact Linda Cundiff, chair of the art department, at (270) 789-5268 or email@example.com or Davie Reneau, associate professor of art, at (270) 590-3859.
