Dr. Sam Porter, Mississippi organist, to perform Sept. 26

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University’s School of Music will host guest organ recitalist Dr. Sam Porter, organist from Mississippi, on Wednesday, Sept. 26. at 5 p.m. in the Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.

Porter will perform in an hour-long program including works by Herbert Murrill, Jan Sweelinck, Johann Walther, J. S. Bach, Cynthia Goff, Augustin Barie and Iain Quinn.

The public is invited to the event which is free of charge.

Porter is an organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg, Miss. He has also served as an organist and music director at a number of churches over the years. He has produced several music recordings and successfully taught a number of student winners of local and regional competitions.

Porter has also made appearances as an organ recitalist and piano accompanist throughout the United States, Europe and South America.

He taught at Stillman College and the University of Mississippi, and also served as a staff accompanist and opera coach at Baylor University.

Porter received his bachelor of music degree in organ as well as his master of music in music theory and literature from Baylor University. He received his doctor of musical arts in organ performance from the University of Alabama.

Porter continues his education by taking master classes and attending yearly regional and national conventions of the American Guild of Organists and National Music Teachers Associations.
