CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Nancy Cox, a Taylor County native who is an Emmy winning news anchor for LEX 18 News in Lexington, Ky., will be the guest speaker at Campbellsville University’s Women’s Alliance Brunch Saturday, Sept. 24.
The brunch is at 10 a.m. in the Office of Broadcast Services, 203 W. Broadway, Campbellsville.
Cox will speak on her experiences in broadcasting. Also speaking will be Breanne Ward, a communications major with an emphasis in public relations. A junior, Ward is from Marysville, Ind.
Cox attended Campbellsville University in spring 1987. She graduated summa cum laude from Western Kentucky University.
Soon after Cox graduated, she decided to fulfill her childhood dream by being named Miss Kentucky and represented Campbellsville and the Commonwealth of Kentucky at the Miss America Pageant.
Cox came home to Campbellsville and a parade was held in her honor, thrown by the county and city. Cox called the “amazing” parade as “one of the greatest memories from that time.”
She said she and her family will be “forever grateful for the kindness and love shown that weekend.”
Cox is the evening news anchor for LEX 18 News. Having worked there for 24 years, Cox has been recognized for her work by winning three Emmy Awards, and the Edward R. Murrow award. The Associated Press has also named Cox “Best News Anchor in Kentucky” several times.
In her free time, Cox loves to come back and visit her hometown and enjoys singing or speaking for churches and civic groups and soaking up the peace and joy she gets on every visit.
Cox, one of 10 children, is married to Tom Kenny. They have two sons, Thomas, a freshman at Centre College, and Campbell who is 13. She is the daughter of Naomi Cox of Campbellsville and the late Wallace Cox.
