2. When is the best time to take PRAXIS II exams?

  1. The Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) examination should be taken near the end of the semester prior to student teaching. The PLT deals with pedagogy learned during ED 411 and ED 416.
  2. The specialty examinations should be taken soon after completing the content courses for your major. So, the best time to take specialty examinations varies according to your major and how many of your content courses you have taken:
    • P-5 majors should take the specialty exam near the end of the last semester prior to student teaching.
    • All other majors should take the specialty exams soon after they complete their content courses for their certifiable major/s.
    • For example, if you are a social studies major and you complete all the course requirements for your content area after the last semester of your junior year, you should go ahead and take the social studies examinations then. This suggestion does not apply to the PLT
