Our Mission

The Department of Human Performance includes disciplines in Health and Physical Education as well as Sport Medicine/Exercise Science. Curriculum offerings are listed in two tracks Sports Medicine/ Exercise Science and Health and Physical Education. Health and Physical Education offers P-12 teacher certification in Health and Physical Education or Physical Education without teaching rights. Minors listed under Physical Education are: Aquatics Management, Athletic Coaching, Sports management, and Recreation. The course work required in each of these disciplines will professionally prepare students in their respective fields.

The HP Department aims to develop critical thinking, knowledge, skills, and the character that are needed for students to succeed in careers and/or advanced degree programs within a Christ-centered environment. The department seeks to provide an active hands-on (see internships) learning experience with a well qualified faculty who teach in small personal class settings. The department’s graduates have a record of successfully entering the workforce and/or advanced degree programs in education, public health, physical therapy, various healthcare areas, and medicine.
