This degree is appealing to baccalaureate level Christian Studies, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Science, or Social Work graduates who have an interest in attaining a master’s degree and providing non-mental health counseling yet have no interest in seeking licensure to counsel. A graduate with the generalist M.S.C. degree (36 credit hours of coursework) is qualified to provide career, academic, and other non-mental health counseling activities. The M.S.C. graduate, completing the generalist degree, is not qualified to establish a private practice or independently bill service consumers as a professional counselor in Kentucky or states having licensure laws which limit the use of this degree.
