The Western Recorder is looking for an associate editor who is a capable news reporter and writer, creative page designer, and skilled photographer. Specifically, the experienced journalist must:
Manage weekly production of the newspaper, including page design and layout;
Have a solid understanding of news design principles and competence with Adobe InDesign;
Generate well-written news and feature stories, as assigned;
Demonstrate ability to take quality photos and edit using Adobe Photoshop;
Supervise the work of freelance writers and photographers, as needed;
Select and edit news articles and feature stories, in consultation with the editor;
Embrace digital media platforms and post content to website and Facebook page;
Be familiar with Associated Press style and maintain consistent style throughout publication;
Coordinate the placement and representation of print advertising;
Supervise the production of special sections, inserts and partnership newspapers;
Keep abreast of relevant state and national Baptist news;
Have a reputation for accuracy and fairness in reporting and working well with others under deadline pressure.
Requirements: College degree with minimum of two-year’s experience in writing and editing for print and digital publications, expertise in shooting photos (videos a plus), flexibility to travel statewide on assignments, understanding of Southern Baptist churches and the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
