Lou Cunningham
Coach Lou Cunningham was head basketball coach at Campbellsville College-University
for 25 years. He taught many young men about the game of basketball and life.
His teams always played hard mainly our of respect to the coach who was a father
figure to many and a friend to all. He was well respected by his fellow coaches
who voted him KIAC Coach of the Year in 1970-71, 1979-80 and 1990-91. His teams
were always competitive. His accomplishments include: Two Distinct 52 Tournament
Champions 1980-81 and 1990-91, three tournament Runner-up teams 1992-93, 1993-94
and 1994-95. Millstone Victories: 1st win November 14, 1966 Campbellsville 93
- Bethel 88, 100th win December 4, 1980 Campbellsville 80 - Georgetown 72, 200th
win January 16, 1989 Campbellsville 88 - Pikeville 77, 300th win February 11,
1995 Campbellsville 93 - Pikeville 90 and 355th win March 6, 1997 Campbellsville
95 - Lambuth 79.
Lou Cunningham's last win came in tournament play the last year he coached due
to his untimely death on May 13, 1997. Lou will always be remembered for his
love and dedication to the game of basketball to the University and to the many
young men that he was so fond of.
