Dr.
Forest F. Shely
Forest F. Shely, M.D. attended Campbellsville College from 1941 to 1943. During
his two years at Campbellsville College he was a vital member of the men's basketball
team making significant contributions as the team's center. Following his graduation
in 1943, Dr. Shely continued his studies at Georgetown College, Washington and
Jefferson College and Yale University before completing his Medical Doctorate
at the University of Louisville Medical School in 1949.
Dr. Shely began his family medical practice in Louisa, Kentucky in 1950 and
he moved his medical practice to Campbellsville, Kentucky in 1963. He continued
to practice medicine for twenty-six years until his retirement in 1989. Among
his numerous professional accomplishments, Dr. Shely was a Diplomat and Fellow
of the American Academy of Family Practice. He served as Physician Advisor and
Associate Medical Director of the Kentucky Peer Review organization. He has
been Chairman of the Regional Mental Health Board and has served as Chief of
Staff at Taylor County Hospital.
Although he has served on countless boards, Dr. Shely's commitment to Campbellsville
College and to college athletics has been most illustrated by his service on
the Board of Trustees of Campbellsville College now Campbellsville University.
Dr. Shely began his tenure as a trustee in 1954 and he served more than forty
years as a member of the Board, including eleven years as the Board's Chairman.
Simply stated Dr. Shely's tireless commitment to and support of Campbellsville
University Athletics spans nearly sixty years. Forest F. Shely, M.D. is married
to Roberta Hale Shely, a 1942 alumnus of Campbellsville College and they have
five children: William, Karen, Deborah, Jacque and Carla.
