LADY TIGERS WIN AT UNION COLLEGE 96-82 TO IMPROVE TO 4-0
Barbourville, KY - Heading into tonight’s first road game of the season, Campbellsville University Women’s Basketball Coach Ginger Colvin was a bit concerned.
“We’ve gotten off to a great start with 3 straight wins at home. It is going to be interesting to see how this team reacts to playing on the road against a pretty good Union College team. With as many freshmen as we have, it is a bit of a concern in terms of how they will react,” said Colvin.
However, Colvin’s pre-game worries were unfounded, as her team would pound the Lady Bulldogs in a game that was not as close as the final fourteen-point margin indicates.
Campbellsville led 43-39 at halftime after trailing with less than three minutes to play. Jenna Hedges (SR/Louisville, KY) hit a thirty-footer as time expired to cap a Campbellsville rally that gave the Lady Tigers momentum heading into the halftime.
In the second frame, Campbellsville would expand the lead to 83-64 with 8:00 to play. Union then went on an 18-8 run to cut the score to 91-82 with 1:06 to go, but Campbellsville nailed five of six free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.
Campbellsville dominated the boards 50-29. Four Lady Tigers scored in double digits led by the 22 point, 8 rebound performance of Courtney Danis (FR/Mt. Sterling, KY). Juliana Brown (FR/Nashville, TN) and Kristi Ensminger (SO/Kingston Springs, TN) both had 14 points and Priscila Alves (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) added 12 points in the Lady Tiger win.
Campbellsville is now 4-0 and travels to Brescia University on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. game against the Lady Bearcats.
