TIGERS STEAMROLL PAST DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS OKLAHOMA CITY 76-57
Campbellsville, Kentucky - Observers around the NAIA may not be shocked that Campbellsville, ranked 11th in the NAIA Pre-season Ratings, defeated Oklahoma City University today in the Powell Athletic Center, but they may be a bit surprised by the 19 point margin of victory.
“We played really well today,” admitted C.U. Head Coach Keith Adkins after the win. “Our guys really stepped up in these two games this weekend and I think we are seeing the things that this team can become with these wins,” he added.
Campbellsville trailed only twice in the game, the last time at 6-4 at the 18:00 mark. From there the Tigers went on a 27-12 run and led 31-18 with 6:53 remaining in the first half. Oklahoma City would outscore the Tigers 9-5 from that point to cut the halftime lead to 36-27 in favor of the Tigers.
The Stars came out in the second half on a 14-7 run that cut the lead to two, 43-41 at the 15:11 mark, but would never get any closer as Campbellsville ran the lead back into double digits with 13:25 to play and the Tigers were never seriously challenged from that point on in the 19 point win.
Nestor Colmenares (JR/Caracas Venezuela) recorded his fifth double/double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Troy Harris (JR/Georgetown, KY) led the Tigers in scoring with a game high 23 points. Marcus Nicks (JR/Ellicott City, MD) scored 17 points for the Tigers who improved to 7-2 with the win.
The Tigers forced Oklahoma City into 23 turnovers, resulting in 17 Campbellsville points.
Campbellsville’s next game is against Spalding University on Monday night at 7:30 in the Powell Athletic Center.
