TIGER MEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES SEASON OPENER 86-84 AT UNION UNIVERSITY
Jackson, TN - The 11th ranked Campbellsville University Tiger Men’s Basketball team started the season 0-1 today with an 86-84 setback at 19th ranked Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.
Campbellsville never led in the game in which the Bulldogs would run the lead up to the twenty-point margin in the first half. However, the Tigers clawed their way back with a 15-2 run to close the first half and trailed 49-42 at the intermission.
The Tigers continued with the momentum in the second half and tied the game at the 18:00 mark, but Union responded to the first of several Campbellsville challenges. The Tigers would tie the game four different times in the second half and had the opportunity to take the lead on each occasion, but a missed free throw or missed layup would ultimately spell doom for Campbellsville as the last second shot to win fell just short.
“You can’t go on the road like we did today and give up 19 offensive rebounds, shot just 8 or 19 from the free throw line and turn the ball over 20 times and expect to win,” said Campbellsville University Head Coach Keith Adkins. “We’ve got a lot of new players and they are still adjusting to our system,” he added.
Four players tallied double digit scoring for the Tigers led by Marcus Nicks (JR/Ellicott City, MD) with 22 points. Nestor Colmenares (JR/Caracas, Venezuela) had 19 points and 10 rebounds while Deveon Jenkins (JR/Chicago, IL) added 17 points and Jordan Benock (SO/Battletown, KY) scored 12 for Campbellsville
Campbellsville travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in an exhibition game on November 6th. The Tigers next regular season game is scheduled for November 9th against Wayland Baptist in the Lindsey Wilson College Classic.
