MEEKS RECOVERS FROM WRONG TURN TO WIN GEORGETOWN COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL
Georgetown, KY - Campbellsville’s Miranda Meeks, the 2006 Mid-South Conference Cross Country Runner of the Year, ran an extra 500 meters on Saturday at the Georgetown College Invitational and still managed to win the event.
Campbellsville’s Meeks and Sara Branch were running first and third in the race when they missed a turn just past the one mile mark. “There was no one there to direct them and the course was not clearly marked,” said C.U. Cross Country Coach Mark Rowe. Meeks, Branch, along with a Georgetown and Kentucky Wesleyan runner realized their mistake about 500 meters later.
Meeks got back with the pack in 30th place and worked her way back up to win the meet. “It was the most encouraging display of heart I have ever seen at a cross country meet,” said Rowe. Campbellsville’s Breanna Milby finished 5th while Branch ended up 14th after the miscue.
Campbellsville placed third overall in the meet behind Kentucky Wesleyan and Georgetown College.
