MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM RANKED 4th NATIONALLY IN THE SPORTING NEWS PRE-SEASON BASKETBALL NATIONAL MAGAZINE
Campbellsville, KY – The Campbellsville University Tigers Men’s Basketball team is ranked 4th in the nation in the pre-season rankings according to The Sporting News 2007-08 College Basketball Yearbook. The magazine also lists Campbellsville’s Zach Allender (Senior/Bardstown, Kentucky) as a pre-season First Team All-American and Nestor Colmenares (Junior/Caracas, Venezuela) as a pre-season Honorable Mention All-American.
Campbellsville is coming off of a 27-7 season and returns three starters, including Allender who averged 20 points and 9 rebounds a game last year. The Tigers also have a highly regarded recruiting class that is heralded by the addition of Colmenares, a 6’7” first team Junior College All-American last season.
The publication lists the defending NAIA National Champions Oklahoma City as the top ranked team, followed by last year’s national runner-up Concordia (California) as the second pick. Robert Morris College (Ill.) is picked third followed by the Tigers and Mountain State University (WV).
The bottom half of the top ten finds Faulkner (AL), Crichton (TN), Georgetown (KY), Azusa Pacific (CA) and Louisiana State-Shreveport. Mid-South Conference rivals the University of the Cumberlands, Lindsey Wilson College and Pikeville College are all listed as “possible breakthroughs” by the magazine.
The Tigers will play three of the top ten ranked teams during the season: #1 Oklahoma City and #6 Faulkner in the Lou Cunningham Classic at home and the home/away conference matchup with #8 Georgetown. Also on the schedule are games with “possible breakthrough” teams Lindsey Wilson College, University of the Cumberlands and Pikeville College, all home/away conference games, and a road game at Union University (TN).
Campbellsville begins play on November 1st at Western Kentucky University in an exhibition game. The first regular season game for the Tigers is November 3rd at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.
