Campus Announcements -- Feb. 13, 2014
Tiger Plunge is Feb. 22; pre-plunge is Feb. 19; please donate!
The Tiger Plunge is just a little more than a week away, and a race is developing for the recipient of the Golden Plunger Award for the most money raised.
So far, plunger senior Harry Haynes has raised more money than any of the other 18 plungers with $95.23 collected.
Following him closely, however, is Stan McKinney, assistant professor of journalism, with $77 collected. And closely behind him is President Michael V. Carter with $70.
Dr. Bob Wade, dean of the School of Nursing, is fourth with $38 collected.
The other plungers are Jordan Antle, Jayson Barnes, Dr. Tony Cunha, Dr. Jason Garrett, Dr. John Hurtgen, Cameron Jackson, Aris Kuntz, Luisa Martini, Shelby Mattingly, Ellie McKinley, Christopher Mills, Rob Roberts, Joshua Vincent and Vicky Wei.
There will also be a Golden Plunger Award for the team that raises the most money. So far, that is Mass Communication which consists of Haynes, McKinney, Garrett, McKinley and Wei.
Donations may be made to any of the plungers. For more information, go to www.tigerplunge.com
The Tiger Plunge is Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the fountain in Alumni @ Friends Park.
Because Haynes cannot be present that day, there will be a pre-plunge on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. Haynes’ run through the fountain will help test the waters, so to speak.
There will be a table during the pre-plunge where additional donations may be made. You or your team can also still sign up to take the plunge.
There will also be tables in the Dining Hall next week, just prior to the real plunge.
Those who raise $25 will receive a special T-shirt. Those who raise $100 will receive a commemorative stuffed Tiger.
Proceeds benefit the Alumni & Friends Park, The School of Nursing and the university chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Yard sale for Green River Ministries
Debbie Carter and Pam Tennant have a special request from all of you if you can help in any way. Both are on the Board of the Green River Ministries Homeless Shelter and are doing a spring yard sale at the actual homeless shelter on April 11. The purpose is to raise funds to help with all the expenses it takes to run this shelter. If you could donate anything at all you would like to clean out or get rid of it will all be much appreciated. Pam is taking the donations starting now and will pick them up or you can bring them to her. Anything you might see at a yard sale is wanted. Furniture is a huge seller so even that kind of thing would be super. We wanted to start now, so by April we have enough items to have a decent sale. Please help us out with things, or even money donations will be gladly accepted. As the Bible states in Luke 12 verse 48,” Everyone to whom much is given, of him much will be required.” Thank you all.
