The Campus Times is published monthly while school is in session. Students write the stories, take the photographs, sell ads and complete all the other tasks necessary to produce a newspaper.
It is possible to earn academic credit for working as a member of the staff. Emphasis is placed on covering all of the issues and events that are Campbellsville University.
For the last five years in a row, the Campus Times has received first-place national awards for overall content from the Scholastic Press Association. The Campus Times is also a member of the Kentucky Press Association. Students each year attend conferences sponsored by the association. Several have also received summer internships sponsored by the association at various newspapers, public relations firms and corporations throughout the state.
Through a partnership with the New York Times and the Council of Independent Colleges, students for the last three years have gone to New York to spend a day working with editors there. Usually the editor and assistant editor are selected for the trip to New York and the New York Times.
The purpose of the Campus Times is to serve as a newspaper for Campbellsville University students, staff and faculty as well as train tomorrow's journalists.
The adviser for the Campus Times is Stan McKinney, assistant professor of journalism, and a veteran newspaper reporter and editor.
