Ukraine 2009
Four Campbellsville students took part in the English as a Second Language Institute’s first annual Ukraine TESOL program. It was a four week Service-Learning experience in the city of Ternopil, not far from the Polish border. With many universities, cafes, museums, parks, churches, and vibrant city life, Ternopil is considered by many to be a cultural capital of Ukraine.
The program included an intensive historic, cultural, and practical orientation that included excursions in Kyiv, Ternopil, and the neighboring city of Lviv. The students visited various museums, markets, castle ruins, churches, monasteries, etc. The students also took survival Ukrainian language classes. Throughout the following three weeks the students took the course TSL/ED 460 and completed a practicum experience by working with mentally handicapped children, a public kindergarten, and university students.
Planning for the 2010 Ukraine TESOL program will be completed soon. Students wanting information on costs and how to apply can contact the Director of the Center for International Education, Mr. Chris Sanders at international@campbellsville.edu or call 270-789-5051.
