Family Life Education (FLE) is the educational effort to strengthen individual and family life through a family perspective that emphasizes community outreach and prevention. The objective of Family Life Education is to enrich and improve the quality of individual and family life by:
- Emphasizing healthy development and realization of potential.
- Facilitating an ability to function effectively in their personal lives and as members of society.
- Incorporating a family-systems, preventive, and educational approach to individual and family issues.
The CU Family Studies is an interdisciplinary major has received Academic Program Approval from the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), the only international program to certify Family Life Educators. The Certified Family Life Educator credential requires demonstrated knowledge in ten content areas and the completion of a 150 hour internship. Content areas include:
