OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Internship Coordinator plans, organizes and manages the internship program. Develops procedures and promotional materials and evaluates the program. Establishes and maintains employer contacts; counsels students and conducts mock interviews; coordinates internship assignments; conducts workshops; critiques resumes; and serves as liaison between students, faculty, administrators, community, and employers. Promotes office services to community and employers as well as to students and faculty.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Master's preferred (Counseling, Student Personnel, Human Resources, or related field)
  • 2 years of related experience
  • Driver's license
  • Working knowledge of computer software such as Excel and Access and relational database programs
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds
  • Communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Orientation toward quality service
  • Sedentary work: sitting for extended periods
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and evaluate Internship Program assignments for IU Southeast students in all academic divisions, including graduate students. Develop and refine policies and procedures to reflect program participation requirements (GPA, prerequisite courses, etc.) of each division. Create and refine applications and other forms to track assignments process. Design, write edit, and distribute promotional materials including handbooks, brochures and videos to enhance program participation from students, faculty and employers.
  • Build relationships with faculty to garner support for student participation in the Internship program. Initiate and maintain contact with employers by phone, in writing, and by personal visits to companies. Respond to inquiries and communicate to employers the regulations of the program and the expectations for them to participate.
  • Initiate new employer contacts to meet specific student needs. Counsel students to help them identify goals for internship program assignment.
  • Coordinate program internship assignments. Visit with corporate recruiters, oversee distribution of student resumes and the preparation of the employer's position description, and monitor interviewing and selection process.
  • Conduct orientation and interviewing/resume writing workshops to provide students with information on basic work practices, company background, employer expectations, interviewing skills, resume writing, and types of positions available. Conduct one-on-one mock interviews. Prepare and conduct presentations about interviewing services for students interested in preparing for employment interviews. Assist students with use of career library and other career-related resources.
  • Attend events and meetings with employers/human resources directors to market internship program and other services of the Career Development Center. Represent IU Southeast at these events. Work with Directors and Coordinators from other universities to compare services, technology, and trends in order to evaluate program.
  • Serve as liaison between faculty, administrators, students, and employers. Facilitate program registration process with Registrar's Office to include assigning course number, adding needed sections and monitoring/assigning student grades.
  • Develop forms, conduct interviews, and create systems to analyze statistical data for measuring program success. Troubleshoot problems for students, faculty, and employers. Make on-site company visitations and solicit follow-up information. Gather data, generate reports and analyze results to identify possible program improvements.
  • Assist with marketing office services through presentations. Assist at Job Fair registering employers and students. Present orientation information to candidates.
  • Integrate program services with those already available. Make referrals to other departments as appropriate.
  • Work with faculty, administrators, and student organizations to coordinate and publicize career-related events such as: Accounting Career Day, Job Fairs, On-Campus recruiting, bringing employers to student classes, Alumni Association workshops, seminars for students and professionals co-sponsored with other divisions, etc. Assist the Admissions Office in recruiting new students by preparing and conducting presentations about careers to visiting high school and grade school students.
  • Publish program information in newsletters of various organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Louisville Society for Human Resource Management, etc. to garner employer interest in office services and the internship program.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
