Other Technical Advice

If the connection is slow, view abstracts to select results. Only access the full text file when your are certain that you need it.
If the connections is slow, increase the disk cache on your browser if you have the disk space. The cache is a storage area for recently downloaded files, such as HTML pages and graphics. The larger it is, the more it can store and the less likely it will be that the browser will have to download frequently used graphics (such as icons, logos, etc.) more than once per session.

Interface language options - The FirstSearch interface is available in several languages.

Japanese and Chinese (Traditional)

Viewing the FirstSearch interface in Japanese or Chinese (Traditional) requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or above or Netscape Navigator 6.0 or above. Although the use of a Japanese or Chinese operating system is not required, some interface display features (tool tips, title displays and alerts) may not display properly without the appropriate operating system.

Characters in the Chinese and Japanese interfaces are displayed using Unicode (UTF-8 encoding). To view the interface with the intended character set, download and install a Unicode font such as Arial Unicode MS.

Note: FirstSearch does not yet support searching for non-Roman character sets. To search for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Arabic records displayed in the original language, enter search terms in a Roman character set (English, French, or Spanish) and limit the search by the non-Roman language.

Diacritics are best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or above or Netscape 7.1 or above. Displaying diacritics correctly may require a download and install of a Unicode font such as Arial Unicode MS.

In Netscape: Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Cache, and choose "every time".

Grove Music Online uses frames to present the various navigation options, so simply clicking print will print the top frame, the side bar frame, and if viewing a search result, the next/previous frame, as well as the desired main text frame. To print frames, PC users should right-mouse-click and Mac users Apple+mouse-click the main text frame and select 'Print' from the drop-down menu. Browser Requirements

For Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape customers, the minimum browsers needed for good search results are Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01and Netscape 4.7 (with the exception of Netscape 6.0 and 6.1 which will not be supported). Netscape 6.2 and later is supported. Earlier browser versions (and those later versions mentioned for Netscape) are unlikely to give satisfactory display results and will not be supported.
For AOL users, please minimize your AOL screen and select the Internet Explorer (or other supported) browser on your desktop since WilsonWeb does not work with the AOL browser.

System Requirements:

WilsonWeb supports Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 2000, Windows XP, plus the Mac OS 9 version, or later.
WilsonWeb uses ‘cookies’ to manage session information while you are connected. Please ensure that cookies are enabled (they are enabled by default and will have only been disabled if you took steps to disable them).

Other System Issues

It is important to note that if a popup blocker is being used, you must allow for popups from “hwwilsonweb.com.” This is critical for the correct operation of such features as Help, Save, Print, WilsonLink, Dynamic Holdings and other WilsonWeb features that launch separate windows for the requested function.

Also, for best performance, ensure that sufficient cache space is available (a few megabytes is usually sufficient, more is better) and that your browser is set to automatically check the server for more recent versions of cached pages. Again, this is the default setting.
