Campbellsville University Ensembles

Wind Ensemble -- a select group of the finest wind and percussion instrumentalists from the University and the community who perform primarily grade VI band works; 40-45 members are chosen by audition.

Concert Band -- presents a Christmas concert at the end of the fall semester, and two concerts during the spring semester; literature includes masterworks from the standard band repertoire, music from the musical theater, and orchestral transcriptions; no auditions -- open enrollment.

Tiger Marching Band -- Founded in 1992, the Tiger Marching Band today ranks among the elite of private college marching bands. In addition to performances at all home football games, the band regularly appears as exhibition band at high school marching band contests, parades and in other special events throughout the state. Membership is open to all students. Tryouts for drum line and color guard are held each spring.

Pep Band -- the Maroon and Gray Pep Bands play for men's and women's home basketball games during the spring semester; the music is fun and the games are exciting; membership is open to all students.

Jazz Ensemble -- get into the "swing" of things by auditioning for this fun group, which presents concerts on campus and goes on tour each fall. The Jazz Band made concert tours in Brazil in 1999 and 2002.

Flute Ensemble –- Ranging from piccolos to bass flutes, this group has a unique sound. It takes4 4-6 or more trips outside of the school each year to perform.

University Orchestra -- This ensemble has added a new dimension to our music program, giving breadth and depth to the music area. The growth in the orchestra has provided other benefits such as additional string ensembles and chamber groups.

University Chorale -- the auditioned SATB touring choir, specializing in shorter choral pieces; approximately forty members are chosen by audition each August to function for the entire academic year; the Chorale tours in the eastern United States each spring and also makes an overseas tour about every three or four years.

Concert Chorus -- our largest choir, which performs one or two major choral works each semester; for example, Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah, or Bernstein's Chichester Psalms; participation each semester is open to everyone with no auditions.

Chamber Choir -- our most select choral group, since its 8-12 members are chosen from within the University Chorale; it focuses on music beyond the scope of either Concert Chorus or University Chorale, such as early music, 20th-Century classical music, secular music from all periods, popular music, and even humorous pieces, as well as medium-length choral works.

University String Chamber Ensemble is an ensemble for the string players performing the rich heritage of music written for strings only.  Repertoire is varied and ranges from Baroque to Contemporary.   This group rehearses two hours per week and presents two on-campus performances each year and concerts off campus as needed. Dr. J. Robert Gaddis conducts the ensemble.

Handbell Choir -- one of the few college handbell choirs anywhere (and one of the oldest), with ringers selected by audition each August; in addition to separate concerts during the year, the Handbell Choir always joins University Chorale for the Spring Tour.

Specialized Groups -- Woodwind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble.
