Music Organizations

NASM Membership

The National Association of Schools of Music is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the accrediting agency for post-secondary music programs. The Association is comprised of conservatories, public and private college, universities, and music schools, totaling approximately 570 accredited institutional members. By meeting the strict standards for NASM membership a college or university is able to assure prospective students and Faculty of the high quality of its music program.

Campbellsville University is one of only two private colleges/universities in Kentucky to be an accredited institutional member of NASM. It is the only private institution in Kentucky approved by the NASM to offer the Master of Music in Music Education, the Master of Music in Church Music, and the Master of Arts in Music degree programs.

Professional Organizations

Flute Society of Kentucky

A non-profit educational organization that works to increase the education and performance of flute music in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, The FSK was organized in the fall of 1999. It is affiliated with the National Flute Association and is open to all flutists, teachers, and supporters of flute music. The Board of Directors includes Campbellsville University's Dr. Lisa McArthur and Dr. Bob Gaddis. Dr. McArthur was recently elected President of the Society.

The first official function of the FSK was "Campbellsville Flute Day" on January 14, 2000. More than 80 flutists from all over the state descended onto the Campbellsville University campus for a day of flute choir rehearsals, masterclasses with renowned flutist Jim Walker, exhibits, discussions, and fellowship together. The evening performance featured Campbellsville University students Jessica Lander, Sarah Kuder, and Christina Milby in the flute choirs. Several of the Campbellsville University Faculty participated as well: Dr. Gaddis as a conductor, Dr. McArthur as a soloist and ensemble performer, and Nevalyn Moore as an accompanist. For the final piece the "Campbellsville Flute Day" participants surrounded the audience and performed an arrangement of "My Old Kentucky Home" written especially for this event by Dr. Jim Moore.
