The String
Program at Campbellsville University has grown by leaps and bounds in the
past few years. What started in 1996 as a humble community ensemble
has grown to a full-size orchestra comprised almost entirely of CU students
and faculty. The program has expanded to include a string chamber
ensemble and several string quartets and trios.
The University Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. J. Robert Gaddis, performed by invitation at the 2004 Kentucky Music Educators Association In-Service Conference. The String Chamber Ensemble won an invitation to the same conference in 2007. Members of both of these ensembles recently participated in the inaugural Kentucky Inter-Collegiate Orchestra. In fact, the positions of concertmaster, first viola, and first cello were all held by CU students!
