CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TO HOLD THIRD ANNUAL UPPER GREEN RIVER AQUATIC FAUNA SYMPOSIUM APRIL 18

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University is hosting the third annual Upper Green River Aquatic Fauna Symposium Friday, April 18 beginning at 1 p.m. in the Banquet Hall of the Student Union Building.

           

Dr. Richie Kessler, associate professor of biology/environmental studies program coordinator,said the symposium is open to the public especially for visiting researchers, faculty and student.

The free symposium schedule is below:

• 1 p.m.-1:10 p.m., welcome and introduction;
• 1:10 p.m.-1:45 p.m. Upper Green River Mussel Restoration and Recovery Efforts --

Recovery and Restoration of the Federally Endangered ring pink mussel, Obovariaretusa, with comments on other listed species -- Monte McGregor, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources;

• 1:45 p.m. -2:15 p.m. -- Propagation and Release of Endangered Mussels into the Green River within Mammoth Cave National Park--  Kendall R. Moles and James B. Layzer, Tennessee Tech University;
• 2:40 p.m. -3 p.m. -- Monitoring Mussels in the Upper Green River -- James B. Layzer and Kendall R. Moles, Tennessee Tech University;
• 3 p.m. - 3:20 p.m. --  Predicting the Unseen:  Mussel Species Richness Estimation in the Upper Green River -- Jesse S. Helton and James B. Layzer, Tennessee Tech University;
• 3:20 p.m. - 3:40 p.m. -- Comments on the Snail Fauna of the Upper Green River -- Ryan Evans, Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission;
• 3:40 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. -- Managing River Flow on the Green River, Ky. to Meet the Needs of Multiple Users --Andrew Miller- Ecological Applications, Michael Turner-  U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jordan Henk- Redlands Institute.

There will be discussion of the restoration/recovery from 2:15 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. with a break from 2:30 p.m. until 2:40 p.m. The symposium will end at 4:30 p.m.
