CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY HOLDS MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR LORI MORRISON
By Madeline Kitchens, staff writer
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University graduate Lori Morrison’s life was celebrated and her friends mourned their loss at a memorial service Friday morning at Ransdell Chapel.
Morrison, 22, died on Saturday, April 26 of natural causes. She passed away in her home in Campbellsville, Ky. She was a December graduate of the Carver School of Social Work at Campbellsville University.
Before the memorial service, a slideshow played with pictures of Morrison and her friends. Ed Pavy, director of campus ministries at Campbellsville University, began the service.
Friends of Morrison played music, including the song “I’ll Fly Away.”
Dr. Darlene Eastridge, dean of the School of Carver Social Work, spoke on how death happens to everyone, not just good people or bad people. She quoted several Christian authors on how to deal with death. She said that bullets, illness and reckless automobiles have no conscience. They take lives without a concern for who the victim is, she said.
Sara Borders and Laura Cromer spoke on Lori and their friendship. Both met her four years ago and were challenged both spiritually and socially by Lori. Borders mentioned how Lori loved to sing and dance and is now in heaven spending all her time doing that for God. Cromer talked about Lori’s love of international students and of serving others.
Pavy spoke on how the family wanted to celebrate Lori, not just mourn their own loss. He said that if Lori had the choice, she would choose to stay where she is with Jesus than come back here.
President Michael V. Carter finished the memorial service by having the entire group hold hands and pray for the Morrison Family.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, April 30 in North Carolina. Gifts of sympathy can be sent in the form of donations in Lori Morrison’s name to the Center for International Education or contact Benji Kelly at jbkelly@campbellsville.edu.
