CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Nevalyn Moore has a list.

She made her list 15 years ago. It's a 3x5 index card, and it has 15 items on it. She shared the list, which is what she wants to do upon her retirement, with Campbellsville University's faculty and staff at the 25th annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Service April 25 in the Winters Dining Hall.

Moore is retiring after this academic year after 25 years of teaching at CU. The Faculty and Staff Recognition Service honors CU employees for their years of service in five-year increments.

Moore, who is an assistant professor of music, said her list includes: rocking and singing to premature babies in a hospital ward; quilting; smocking; playing piano for fun; bike with her husband, Dr. James Moore, who is professor of music at CU; catch up with family pictures; write more arrangements for piano, organ and choir; learn fiddle tunes and jigs on hammer dulcimer; learn to chord with a melody on hammer dulcimer; read, read, read; do word puzzles; write solo bell pieces; make sure her grandkids know who she is; play piano at nursing homes; and go to DisneyWorld.

"I'm a happy person, and I've loved my job here. The quality of life and joy in your life is more important than money. Campbellsville University is what she has become because of the people here," she said. "There are wonderful staff at CU who keep the faculty going. You are important and make CU what a great, people place that she is," she said.

Moore said students at Campbellsville University are "wonderful" and the music students she works with are "talented and bright." She said she sees them blossom in their junior and senior years. She said she has always wanted them to achieve and that the students have "good hearts."

Dr. Frank Cheatham, vice president for academic affairs, said CU would invite Moore back to play and to teach.

"It takes every one of us to make Campbellsville University what she is," he said.

Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of CU, thanked Moore for her list and reminding everyone of the "really important things" in life.

He congratulated faculty and staff on a successful '07-'08 academic year. He said Campbellsville University's mission calls for everyone to work together and faculty and staff did stay together when faced with some untimely deaths on campus during the year.

"It's been a year of contrasts – a year of joy and sadness and loss," he said.

He thanked everyone for their "character, love and compassion."

"You make me proud to be here," he said. "Our commitment to CU must not falter," he said.

He talked of the upcoming commencement ceremonies on campus May 9 and 10 – calling commencement "the most important days" in the life of a university.

"We will send out our end product into the world," he said. "What is really important is that we produce a graduate of character and create a civilization of respect and love through our differences.

"The God we worship and serve is a God of love. Loving Christ is first and foremost in our lives. God is not done with Campbellsville University. We need to maintain our momentum, love one another and understand that Christ has called us to be a distinguished university," he said.

Carter said the "need for Campbellsville University has never been greater than this spring 2008" which showed a 16th consecutive year of record enrollment.
