Kentucky Heartland Outreach (KHO) is a non-profit organization based in Campbellsville, KY. We provide exterior home repairs to low-income families throughout Central Kentucky, mainly focusing on roofing and building ramps and decks. Due to numerous grants from Kentucky Housing Corporation, Campbellsville University, and other organizations, KHO is able to complete these much-needed home repairs at no cost to the homeowner. Our passion and heart is to meet physical needs in the confidence that we’ll be able to share the love of Christ with them. Although the KHO office is open and active year-round, the majority of our construction projects and home repairs are completed during the summer months (June and July). KHO facilitates youth camps and invites youth from across the country to participate in our construction-based camps. During the week, camp participants are split into work crews and are led by KHO Summer Staff to complete the home repair designated for the crew for that week. Campers also engage in powerful worship services, recreational activities, and Bible devotionals that are led by Summer Staff as well. KHO would not be able to facilitate these summer camps without the efforts of willing college students who have a heart for service and ministry. As a summer intern some of your responsibilities will include:
- Leading groups of 10-15 middle school and high school students in completing construction projects
- Leading daily devotionals on site and ministering to the homeowner
- Help facilitate camps: camp chores, participate in worship services, night time activities with campers.
- Developing relationships with KHO staff, camp participants, and homeowners
Staff will be hired from mid-May to the end of July/beginning of August. There will be three weeks of training before camps begin, 6 weeks of camps, and 2 staff weeks, making a total of 11 weeks. Specific dates and times for staff arrival and final dismissal will be communicated at a later time. College students interested in applying must be at least 19 years old or have completed their freshman year of college. Applicants should have good communication skills and a heart for ministry and service. You do not need to have previous construction experience. Before camps begin, KHO will conduct 3 weeks of extensive, hands-on training for repairing roofs, building wheelchair ramps, decks, and walking ramps. For more information, or to complete an application, visit our website at www.khohome.org or call the office at (270) 469-4949. The application deadline is Friday, November 14, 2008, and interviews will be conducted through the middle of December 2008.
