Dr. Joseph L. Owens to speak on ‘Black History Month’ at Campbellsville University Feb. 19 chapel

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Dr. Joseph L. Owens, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church of Lexington, Ky. and CU Trustee, will be discussing Black History Month at Campbellsville University’s Wednesday, Feb. 19 chapel service at 10 a.m. in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.

Everyone is invited to attend the free service.

Owens, a native of Lebanon, Ky., became licensed to preach in 1975 at First Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Ky., and became ordained in 1980 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky.

Owens served as pastor at Second Baptist Church in Vincennes, Ind. for seven years, and Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Midway, Ky. for 11 years.

Owens graduated from Campbellsville College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies. In 1980, he graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and a Master’s of Religious Education degree. In 2000, he graduated from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. with a doctor of ministry.

He is the former chair of Campbellsville University’s Board of Trustees and has served on the CU Board of Trustees since 2004.

He serves as chairman for the Black Church Coalition of the Bluegrass in Lexington, Ky. He is a member of several boards including Building a United Interfaith Lexington through Direct Action, Direct Action Research Training (DART) and North Lexington Branch YMCA. He also serves as a moderator of the Consolidated District Baptist Association.

Owens is married to his wife Elizabeth, also a 1977 graduate of CU, and they have two children, Charisa Jene and John Mark, as well as five granddaughters.

All chapels are open to the public free of charge and are televised live on WLCU (Comcast Cable channel 10 and digital channel 15) and are streamed live on the internet at wlcutv.com.

Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through a variety of informative speakers and presentations.
