MAY 2009 -- The Campbellsville University Women’s softball team continues to dominate the competition on the field, winning its 20th game in a row over Union College on April 16.
The win improved the women’s record to 18-1-1 in conference play and 38-5-1 overall. In the last 10 games, the team has outscored its opponents 85-6, truly dominating any team that dared take the field with them.
Freshman Bailey Dillender won awards for Mid-South Conference player of the week for the second week in a row, while Junior Allison Horton won pitcher of the week for the second week in a row. Dillender was also honored as NAIA National player of the week for her hot bat in recent play, hitting seven homeruns in one week.
Allison Horton extended her overall record to 15-4 on the season as well as rattling off 11 straight wins. In the two wins over Lindsey Wilson and West Virginia Tech, Horton allowed 0 runs and only three hits in her 12 innings of pitching while striking out 15. The Lady Tigers headed into the Mid-South Conference tournament on April 21 in first place and were expected to continue their success on the field and win the conference.
With a strong core of senior leadership that includes Dana Price, Elaine Broscoe, Bethany Rothermund, Krystie Johnson and Jessica Gunby, The Lady Tigers do not lack talent or experience. Despite the loss of these seniors, a very talented and young team will be returning to build on the success that has already been achieved this season.
