The KIIS Summer Study Abroad program in Mexico was the adventure of a lifetime. I was able to finish my minor in Spanish while spending two months surrounded by Mexican culture. From the moment I got off the plane in Mexico City, I was swept away by the rich historical and cultural centers of the largest city in the world. We were assigned to Mexican host families who lived in Morelia. This, I think, was the key component in experiencing the culture and everyday life of the people of Mexico. There is no better way to learn a language than to be placed in the middle of that culture. I learned more Spanish and the correct way to speak and annunciate during those two months than the entire six years I had studied the language up to that point. The classes were challenging, but they provided the best education possible and were supplemented with the experience of living in the Spanish-speaking culture. I would recommend this program to anyone who is serious about becoming proficient or even fluent in the Spanish language and is ready to embark on a journey that will expand all horizons.
