ROLE DESCRIPTION

Title: PART-TIME COORDINATOR OF PARISH MUSIC & LITURGY & PART-TIME PAROCHIAL SCHOOL MUSIC TEACHER


I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

II. PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THIS POSITION

To plan, coordinate, conduct and teach our parish-wide (church and parochial school) music programs in

order to engage the full, active and conscious participation of our local church and school assemblies

within the liturgical life of the Roman Catholic Church.



III. POSITION CONTENT

A. Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities:

The Parish Coordinator of Music, participates in the planning and preparation of music and liturgical celebrations, (Sunday Eucharist, funerals, weddings, sacramental events, Quinceaneras, School liturgies, Parish celebrations, etc.)

1. Selects and plays music for liturgies and prepares the musical accompaniments as needed.

2. Teaches music on a part-time basis to Elementary aged children and Middle School youth in our local Parochial School under the direction of our Principal, diocesan, and school’s mission and policies.

3. Schedules and rehearses cantors for parish liturgies as needed.

4. Helps to recruit and build a successful music program and choir.

5. Accompanies music for funerals, weddings and other approved parish liturgical gatherings.

6. Collaborates with other parish music groups and musicians, and schedules choir rehearsals in order to provide direction and training.

7. Maintains a professional competence through regular music practice and certifications.

8. Collaborates, communicates and maintains a good rapport with the Pastor, Pastoral Staff, Principal, Faculty and parishioners.

9. Establishes and maintains contact with resources both within as well as outside the parish’s musical and liturgical community to facilitate the growth of new ideas.

10. Attends Pastoral Staff, Spiritual Life Committee and other meetings.

11. Prepares annual budget for areas of responsibility and administers the expenditures of approved items.

12. Serves as a contact person between the diocese and our parish, with our pastor, regarding music and liturgy for diocesan liturgies in our parish.

13. Collaborates and coordinates well with other minsters (lay and ordained) that are charged to oversee certain areas of liturgy.

14. May perform other general duties of music and liturgy and may assume other responsibilities as mutually agreed upon with the pastor.

15. Teach and minister with creativity, helping instill enthusiasm for worship in others through liturgical music.


IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

A. Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities (SKAs)

1. Proficiency in care and playing of the parish’s electronic organ and grand piano.

2. General proficiency and experience in understanding Catholic liturgy and music with an

ability to teach them in a parochial school setting and to children, youth and the parish

faithful.

3. Knowledge and appreciation of Roman Catholic liturgical arts, environments and

practices.

4. A successful and functional ability to communicate and collaborate with others well,

including children, youth and adults.

5. The ability to read music. direct cantors, choirs and congregational singing.

6. Ability to collaborate within a multicultural parish, especially among English-speaking

and Spanish-speaking cultures. Fluent Spanish skills are not required, may serve as an

advantage.

7. Willing to improve knowledge and skills through course work and

professional associations.

8. Currently hold, or able to renew promptly, a Kentucky Teaching Certificate.

9. Has update computer and technology skills.

10. Possesses a current Driver’s License.

11. Be a Catholic in faithful standing with the Church, by assent in the faith of the Catholic

Church and fidelity to the Catholic Church’s doctrines and practices.

12. Help promote Catholic identity and the mission of evangelization within our local

Church, parochial school and civic community.



B. Education, Training and/or Experience

1. Bachelor’s Degree in music, or an appropriate or equivalent discipline, with parish and

liturgical music leadership and teaching experience.


V. RESPONSIBILITIES FOR APPLICATION & HIRING

1. Becomes trained in and maintains Diocesan and Parish Safe Environment protocols.

VI. WORKING ENVIRONMENT

1. Regular weekend and evening work hours required.

2. Along with the regular parish liturgical schedule, musicians may be required to

provide music for additional services during Holy Week, sacramental

celebrations, weddings, and funerals.

3. Private Office space within the Pastoral Staff Office Building.
