Campbellsville University Volleyball is off to a hot start this season. With a 4-1 overall record, the Tigers’ only loss of the season came on September 5 to Mid-South Conference rival Lindsey Wilson College in the fifth and final set.
“We are a very deep team with a lot of possibilities.” Head Coach, Amy Eckenfels said earlier this season in an interview with CU Sports Information.
She hit the nail on the head with that one. Offensively, CU looks to a junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil to make things happen. Daine Souza, MSC Player of the Week recipient for the week leading up to Sept. 1, propelled the Tigers in their first win of the season over Asbury University.
Other key components for the Tigers are juniors, Kelly Moyer, Caitlin Dresing and Giselle Hernandez. Lone senior, Laura DeGear is also a big threat to opposing teams come game day. Sophomore, Tara Robertson is likely to make a statement this year too, she saw limited action as a freshman.
A few new faces for the Tigers have already made their mark in completion, however. Freshman, Kira Stewart had a monster night in her first game for CU, 29 assists and one ace. Rinata Alsena, Haley Bechtel, and Jana Kortas are all names to get familiar with, these three are already showing great strides for CU and the future can only get brighter. Bechtel and Kortas are both freshman, Alsena is a junior.
Campbellsville University Volleyball plays all of their home matches in the Powell Athletic Center on campus of Campbellsville University. For more information on Tiger Volleyball, visit www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
