Campbellsville University's online master's of teaching in high school education is ideal for those who wish to enter a teaching career and already have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. With a curriculum that is rooted in Christian values, the program gives you the skills needed to apply effective teaching methods with students and help them prepare for college and the workforce. You'll earn the required certification to teach your desired subject area while learning the fundamentals of teaching high school students and the current trends that are changing education.

Earning the high school education degree online gives you the opportunity to learn about the physical, cognitive and social-emotional development of adolescents, as well as a variety of instructional approaches, comprehensive curriculum tools and materials that help support student reading and writing. The program additionally explores the practical skills in student evaluation that are required for curriculum planning within the classroom and how to utilize those assessments.

You will also learn effective management skills, the research methods and procedures related to education and the usage of instructional technology as a hands-on aid for teaching and learning.

Choose from one of five tracks to help focus your degree:

A graduate practicum/seminar is required for the degree. The course gives you an opportunity to apply your best instructional practice in a field-based setting with cognitive coaching from colleagues. In addition, students, including those taking the Option 6 route, who are not currently teachers must complete 16 weeks of student teaching in a middle school classroom.

The program's faculty incorporate their real-world experiences in the curriculum. Campbellsville University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Campbellsville's education programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and are approved by the Education Professional Standards Board of Kentucky (EPSB) for teacher education and certification.


Course Map

The online master's of teaching in high school education is made up of 30 to 36 credit hours, depending on if you are completing the Traditional or Option 6 program. Sixteen weeks of student teaching are required for traditional students and option 6 students who are not currently teaching. There are also five tracks to choose from: English, biology, chemistry, mathematics and social studies.


Admissions Requirements

In order to apply to Campbellsville University's accredited online master's of teaching in high school education, prospective students must submit or complete the following:

  1. Complete the online application
  2. Official Transcript Request Form (via Adobe Sign). In most cases, this will allow us to request your transcripts on your behalf.
  3. All official college transcripts from each college or university previously attended and currently attended
  4. 2.75 overall GPA from their undergraduate studies or a 3.0 in their last 30 hours
  5. Must have at least a bachelor's degree in the field in which the applicant wishes to teach

*Some additional requirements will be requested upon acceptance into the program.
