Job Title:                      Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion                         FLSA Status:  Hourly

Department:              Student Life                                                                    Classification: Administrative

Reports To:                 Associate Dean of Students

SUMMARY

The Coordinator for Diversity and Inclusion is responsible for creating a nurturing campus environment for minority groups on campus.  This individual will facilitate programming that caters to student interests and also programming that educates the campus community about minority populations.  The Coordinator for Diversity and Inclusion will also assist unique student populations in transitioning to campus.  This is a live-on campus position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Create student programming opportunities focusing on diversity education, minority groups, unique student populations, etc.
  • Advise related student groups
  • Attend to international student needs in creating a campus home and acclimating to culture
  • Communicate with parents and stakeholders
  • Participate in on-call duty rotation for campus
    • Walk through the buildings at least once while on call
    • Be on campus by 10:00 p.m. (when on duty)
    • Carry a cell phone while on-call, typically 1 week a month
  • Attend weekly Student Life meetings

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This individual may supervise student workers as needed.

  • Education and / or Experience –Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training. Master’s Degree in Student Personnel or related area and two years of post-bachelors experience in a college setting preferred. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct student activities. Individual must possess a passion for students and their development. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with individuals and groups of varying backgrounds, interests and goals.
  • Communication / Language — Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Mathematical — Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning — Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Individual should possess skills in critical thinking, problem solving and multi-tasking.

  • Computer Literacy / General Office Equipment — Intermediate computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), typing, fax machine, copier
