Guest Recital: Dr. Janet Bass Smith, piano
Smith received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Piano Performance from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in Greensboro, N.C. She also received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Piano Performance from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wy., where she graduated summa cum laude.
Smith holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Conservatory of Music in Kansas City, Mo. She has a master teacher certification from the Music Teacher’s National Association and has done further schooling at Juilliard School of Music based in New York City, N.Y., and from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester.
Besides teaching at Campbellsville University, Smith has been a professor of music for three other universities while also helping to form the Orchestra Kentucky in Bowling Green. Smith has won several honors through her work in music as well as having had work published in music journals. For the past 17 years she has been a park ranger for Mammoth Cave National Park and runs a piano studio in Bowling Green.
Smith has performed a Mozart concerto with an orchestra in St. Petersburg, Russia, and a concert inside Mammoth Cave with a cellist from Germany. She has performed all over the United States and Europe as a solo pianist and with her husband Charles, a flutist.
