CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University’s 2019 Homecoming play, produced by the Campbellsville University Theater Department in conjunction with Town Hall Productions, will be “She Loves Me.”
Auditions for the play will be Wednesday, Aug. 21 and Thursday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. in the Russ Mobley Theater, 114 University Drive, Campbellsville.
Those interested in auditioning are required to bring a one-minute monologue and a 32-bar cut from a song. Callbacks are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 23 at 6 p.m.
“She Loves Me” will run Oct. 17-20. Homecoming is Oct. 19.
“She Loves Me” is a romantic comedy that inspired the hit film “You’ve Got Mail” starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
According to Jon Andrew, instructor in theater arts at Campbellsville University, in the play “Amalia and Georg work together at a modest Hungarian parfumerie, and have disliked each other from their very first meeting. He thinks she’s stuck up, and she thinks he’s arrogant and unkind. But when the work day is through, both Georg and Amalia rapturously write to an anonymous lonely-hearts pen pal, and it doesn’t take long for the audience to see that they’re in love with one another without realizing it.
“Inevitably, through some of the most iconic songs in the musical theatre canon (“Vanilla Ice Cream,” “She Loves Me” and “Will He Like Me?”), Georg and Amalia discover the truth and rejoice in their love for each other at the story’s sweet and musically delightful conclusion,” Andrew said.
Crew for the play are as follows: Jon Andrew, director; Starr Garrett, director of the CU theater, technical director; Daniel Bannister, music director; Kristen Dowdy, chorography; Matt Nall, technical director at CU, production manager; and Natalie Shadrick, stage manager.
Actors and actresses are needed for the following roles:
Arpad Laszlo: Baritone. Delivery boy at Maraczek’s Parfumerie. His exuberance is infectious and commitment to his job remarkable. He is ambitious, determined, and adorable.
Ladislav Sipos: Baritone. A simple, hard-working employee at Maraczek’s Parfumerie. A confidant to Georg, he is an optimistic family man who does his job dutifully and with integrity.
Steven Kodaly: Tenor. A well-respected and liked employee at Maraczek’s Parfumerie. Though he comes across as kind and charming, he is really a shallow womanizer interested only in his own advancement.
Mr. Maraczek: Baritone. Owner of Maraczek’s Parfumerie. His dedication to the trade is rivaled only by his faithfulness to his wife. With a commanding presence, he is forward, blunt and runs a tight ship.
Georg Nowack: Tenor/Baritone. An established employee of Maraczek’s Parfumerie, he is a hopeless romantic. Shy, intelligent and soft spoken, he is like the son Mr. Maraczek never had.
Amalia Balash: Soprano. The eager new employee at Maraczek’s Parfumerie. Despite being a skilled saleswoman, she easily becomes unsure and nervous. Innocent, bright and a lover of literature.
Ilona Ritter: Mezzo-Soprano. Employed at Maraczek’s Parfumerie. She is sexy and learned in the ways of romance, but longing for something more lasting than fleeting flings.
Waiter: Tenor. An eccentric and over-zealous waiter insistent on creating a romantic atmosphere.
Busboy: Non-Singing Role. Clumsy at his job, he makes the waiter’s life a nightmare.
Mr. Keller: Non-Singing Role. A highly secretive Private investigator.
Voice parts are also needed for shoppers, café visitors and carolers.
