CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—Mallory Farquhar of Columbus, Ohio, has been selected as a recipient of the Marvin Dodson-Carl Perkins Scholarship.
Farquhar, a 2005 graduate of Worthington Christian High School, is a senior at Campbellsville University.
The Marvin Dodson-Carl Perkins Scholarship is an annual award available to college juniors and seniors and post-baccalaureate students pursuing a teacher’s endorsement, or master of arts in teaching candidates in a Kentucky college or university. The scholarship focuses on leadership.
Farquhar, an elementary education major, said the scholarship required that she verify her enrollment at CU, show evidence of credit hours and grade point average. She also had to send a resume, letters of recommendation and an essay.
Farquhar was notified that she was a winner via e-mail.
She was asked to attend the Kentucky Education Association Delegate Assembly in April 2007 to accept the scholarship.
“There, I was recognized with my peers, (five other recipients) in front of the whole delegation of [more than 500] members. I was introduced by the president of KEA with a brief summary of my achievements and leadership experience mentioned prior to being given a few moments to thank everyone for this honor,” she said.
Farquhar, who previously served as president of the KEA-SP local chapter, is serving as treasurer for the local chapter, while also serving as president of the state chapter of KEA-SP. She is also on CU’s Judicial Council, as well as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa at CU.
Farquhar said it was an honor to be chosen as a recipient.
“With the rising cost of tuition, this scholarship has taken off the increased burden as well as assisted in the cost for taking my PRAXIS II tests in preparation for earning my teacher’s certificate,” said Farquhar.
“This was a true honor to be recognized by my mentors at KEA as a leader within the association. It was a great opportunity to address the delegation and be able to share a few words of gratitude.”
Farquhar is the daughter of Jeffrey and Carrie Farquhar.
