CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TRYING FOR GUINNESS
RECORD FOR WORLD’S TALLEST STACK OF MATTRESSES

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. –Campbellsville University is starting a new tradition of setting an official Guinness World Record each year during Welcome Weekend, and this year’s involves mattresses.
Andrew Ward, director of student activities and intramurals, said students are attempting to break the record for the World’s Tallest Stack of Mattresses Saturday, Aug. 22.
The current record is just over 12 feet tall, he said, and that equals 24 of the CU campus mattresses.
Ward said staff have designed a plan that will incorporate 120-200 mattresses. “We’ll be building layers from opposite sides, laying like bricks,” he said. “The center column will rise above the current record.”
Ward invites everyone to come out and see the event from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Stapp Lawn. He has arranged for WCKQ and K-Country to do a live remote, and he invites other media to come see the mattresses.
This event is one of several during the weekend as students return to campus. Although the residence halls officially open at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, there are several events planned during Welcome Weekend, Aug. 21-23.
On Friday, Aug. 21, there will be a commuter get-together from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Alumni Building with a Welcome Weekend Kickoff at 8 p.m. in Ransdell Chapel. At 8:20 p.m., Bean and Bailey will perform in the chapel.
At 9:45 p.m., there will be a Watermelon Fest, facilitated in part by the Baptist Campus Ministry, outside the chapel.
On Saturday, Aug. 22, first-year students only will have several activities beginning at 10:45 a.m. There will be a Service of Dedication from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Ransdell Chapel.
From 3:45 p.m. until 7 p.m., Welcome Weekend Extravaganza will be in the football stadium, along with a church fair, festival, inflatables, yard games, music, picnic, etc. Dinner will be at the football stadium from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
At 5 p.m., there will be a football scrimmage.
On Sunday, following church services, there will be informal afternoon activities from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. including sand volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, etc. The event ends at 8 p.m. with Sunday Night Explosion in the Ransdell Chapel.
Welcome Week events are Aug. 23-30 and Freshman Week is Aug. 31-Sept. 4. A variety of events, including picnics, an open house at the president’s home, block party, etc., will be available for new and returning students.
Classes begin Monday, Aug. 24 at 8 a.m
