CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University will host the Kentucky General Assembly Interim Joint Legislative Committee on Education for its meeting Monday, Sept. 8 in The Gheens Recital Hall.
The meeting will bring 25-30 Kentucky State Senators and Representatives from across Kentucky to Campbellsville University.
Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University, said Campbellsville University is delighted to host the meeting which will give CU faculty, staff, students and coaches a time to highlight the university and her importance in the City of Campbellsville.
Carter’s address will highlight the role and mission of Campbellsville University as well as community and regional stewardship initiatives.
Campbellsville University was instrumental in the “Campbellsville Comeback” when Fruit of the Loom left the community – taking over 4,000 jobs away from the economics of Campbellsville.
The Campbellsville University Technology Training Center led in providing education for those workers who lost their jobs at Fruit of the Loom, and the center has trained nearly 8,500 persons since its inception in 1996.
Carter will discuss those initiatives, and others, during his address to the committee.
The legislative hearing at 1 p.m. in The Gheens Recital Hall is open to the public.
State Rep. Russ Mobley, a former CU faculty member, is a member of the House Education Committee.
Dr. Kenneth W. Winters, president of Campbellsville University from 1988 to 1996, is co-chair of the committee and will give comments.
Dr. Gary Cox, president of the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities will speak on the role of private higher education.
The chairmen of the committee will bring up other issues, and the public is invited to ask questions.
