CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—Seth Hart of Monticello will show his senior art exhibit at Campbellsville University’s art gallery April 6-17.
A reception will be held in his honor on Monday, April 6 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. The gallery is located at 205 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.
Hart will display drawings (graphite and color pencil); oil paintings, printmaking, pen and ink, pastels in 2D, 3D assemblages, sculptures and pottery.
He is a 2005 graduate of Wayne County High School. He is a senior at CU and will graduate in May with an area in art. He has participated in the CU Marching Band all four years of college as well as performing in other music ensembles.
His work has previously been displayed at the Wayne County Fair, the Kentucky State Fair, the Kentucky Spanish Festival and the Campbellsville University Juried Art Exhibition.
Hart has a woodcut, titled “Wolf Portrait,” on display at the Council on Postsecondary Education Building in Frankfort, Ky., along with Linda J. Cundiff, professor of art and chair of the art department, who has a pastel, Sunny Sunflowers” on display for a year.
“I have exposed my work to the public to signify my love and appreciation for nature,” said Hart.
“When viewers look at my work, I hope they can just stop and think of ways they can set aside time to enjoy life. I enjoy doing what I do, but I have to give credit and thanks to my middle school art teacher and professors who have inspired me over the years through their teachings of various techniques and forms to help me reach my level of learning.”
Hart said he aims for realism in his pieces and does not plan to stop learning in art. He presents various animals, fruit and the essentials that are used in everyday life in his art.
He grew up in Monticello, Ky., on a small farm where he observed the family’s cattle and numerous pets and began to draw them.
“I discovered that whether it’s the food we eat, the animals we see, or the tasks we participate in each day, it’s all there for a reason. God has provided these things for our nourishment, survival and/or enjoyment. It’s all part of our purpose for living,” he said.
“I try to show how I worship God through these pieces as well, because He is the reason we can enjoy these things in life. It’s the nature that He intended.”
Hart is the son of Kevin and Colleen Hart of Monticello. He attends Rector’s Flat Baptist Church.
