Mary Frances May of Columbia was honored Tuesday by Campbellsville University’s Board of Trustees for over 16 years of service on the Board.
President Michael V. Carter said, “Mary Frances is an outstanding Trustee and we will continue to look to her for strong leadership and guidance. She has served on a number of key Board committees and remains a strong advocate for the students of the institution.”
Over the years, she has provided leadership as vice chair and member of the Student Services Committee, served as a member of the Building and Grounds Committee, a member of the Board’s Committee on Vision for the Second Century and has been a member of the strategic planning committee.
However, she is not the first member of her family with a strong connection to CU. Her great uncle George Durrett was one of the founding members of the school in 1906. He was part of the Russell Creek Association of Baptists who founded the Academy which would grow into Campbellsville University.
Former CU Trustee and leader of the Columbia Baptist Church Hunter Durham recruited fellow Baptist Mary Frances May when she first moved home to the historic Edwards family place after retirement.
Another descendent, Mrs. Wayne Wells of Campbellsville, is Durrett’s great granddaughter.
