Rev. Jeff Eaton, Formerly of Campbellsville, Speaks on Marriage at CU’s

By Hillary C. Wright, student news writer

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—“Marriage is a picture of God and his people.” The Rev. Jeff Eaton, formerly of Campbellsville, delivered a session on marriage at his address at Campbellsville University recently.

Eaton is pastor of Hope Community Church in Frankfort, Ky., and is a graduate of Campbellsville University. He spoke on having a healthy marriage and covered topics including spirituality, finances, understanding communication, sexuality, and dealing with in-laws.

“Marriage is a spiritual and physical union with one another,” Eaton said. “In just living together, you are not living in a covenant relationship.”

He also spoke about how his responsibilities in the church go hand in hand with his responsibility to be a husband. “I can’t mistreat my wife and say that I am God-honoring pastor,” Eaton said. “God will never honor dishonor.”

Eaton also highlighted special points of interest to the men and women in the audience. He said to women in the crowd, “Men have to be bragged on.” To men he said “Women just want us to listen. Listening is intimacy. Look at your wife and say, ‘Honey, I have felt that way too!’ That always makes everything alright.”

He also highlighted the impact that “trespassing outside of the marriage” can have.

“Be faithful to your God and be faithful to your wife,” Eaton said. “You don’t have to be compatible on everything. The enemy wants to destroy your marriage before you even have it.”

Eaton is enrolled in the doctor of ministry program at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif. He is a 1983 graduate of Campbellsville University and a 1994 graduate of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a master of divinity. He graduated in 1978 from Taylor County High School.

Mrs. Eaton, a singer at the church, attended Campbellsville University in 1981 and graduated in 1982 from the Kentucky Baptist School of Nursing. She is a 1979 graduate of Campbellsville High School.

The couple has two children, Andrew and Laura.

Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through a variety of informative speakers and presentations.

All chapel events are open to the public free of charge.
