Position Description

The Tim Horton Children’s Foundation is committed to serving youth from low-income families living in Tim Hortons communities across Canada and the United States. Our programs builds skills and strengths that help youth thrive at school, succeed in their future workplaces and become positive, contributing members of their communities.

Work Term
March 2019 – October 2019

You will…
– prepare, wash, peel, cut and cook food items, as assigned
– clean/sanitize dining tables, dishes, glasses, silverware and other kitchenware
– monitor food and supplies, and stock the kitchen as necessary
– follow food safety and occupational health and safety standards
– support the smooth operation of the kitchen
– contribute to a supportive and positive work environment

You have…
– an interest in pursuing a career in food service
– experience in a food service or kitchen environment
– strong communication skills
– excellent organizational and time management skills
– your ServSafe certification – an asset
– reliable transportation to and from camp – required

Tim Horton Camp Kentahten (THCK) is one of the Foundation’s 7 camps, and occupies 50 acres of waterfront property on Green River Lake in Campbellsville, Kentucky. Located 1.5 hours south of Louisville, THCK is situated within Green River Lake State Park. This region offers 8,210 acres of trails and lakes for outdoor adventures. Program highlights at THCK include: overnight camping, high and low ropes challenge courses, canoeing, kayaking, archery and waterfront activities such as swimming and tubing.

Position Title

Camper Support Specialist – Contract

You will…
– deliver training on areas such as mental health, positive behaviour management, bullying, disclosures, as well as appropriate responses to situations that may occur at camp
– provide on-going coaching and support to camp staff as it relates to meeting camper mental, behavioural, social and emotional needs
– ensure proper response, follow-through and debrief on situations arising with campers
– handle cases of suspected abuse and neglect in line with THCF Wellness Standards
– make referrals to support services in home communities of the campers
work collaboratively and communicate with camper families, the camp management team, wellness team and Camper Support Manager to meet the best interests of the camper
– establish relationships with youth that reflect respect, trust and empathy
– model healthy choices and emotional maturity
– be challenged physically and mentally as you live in an overnight camp setting for 10 day sessions, with 2 days of break in between

Wellness Assistant – Contract

You will…
– support the Wellness Coordinator (Camp Nurse) in health screening arriving and departing campers
– provide First Aid and assess campers and staff
– assist in administering routine medications based on THCF Wellness Standards
– securely maintain camper and staff health files
– establish relationships with youth that reflect respect, trust and empathy
– model healthy choices and emotional maturity
– be challenged physically and mentally as you live in an overnight camp setting for 10 day sessions, with 2 days of break in between
– have the opportunity to experience personal growth alongside the campers you are supporting

Camp Counsellor

Position Description

You remember what it was like growing up. You remember the people who made an impact on your life and you want to be that someone for young people. You are looking for a challenging role that will be extremely rewarding. You will lead and mentor youth from low-income families through a remarkable summer camp program.

You will…
– establish relationships with youth that reflect respect, trust and empathy
– support the successful execution of intentional camp programs and wilderness trip experiences, connecting them back to the program outcomes
– encourage camper development at their own pace recognizing their achievements
– respond appropriately when addressing challenging camper behaviours as they arise
– model healthy choices and emotional maturity
– exhibit a constant duty of care for our campers, and appropriately assess and respond to risks
– be challenged physically and mentally as you live in an overnight camp or wilderness setting for 10 day sessions, with 2 days of break in between

Challenge Course Facilitator

Position Description
– establish relationships with youth that reflect respect, trust and empathy
– lead the successful execution of camp activities, connecting them back to the THCF Youth Leadership Program Framework
– oversee the adventure program area, including maintenance of equipment and proper supervision of staff and campers
– provide high ropes instruction and guidance to groups of staff and kids
– encourage camper development through their own processing and readiness, and recognize their achievements
– use respectful, positive behaviour management techniques
– model healthy choices and emotional maturity
– provide in-field leadership in the event of staff or risk management support, evacuation or replacement of trip supplies
– identify, assess and appropriately manage risks and off-site crises in line with THCF’s risk management standards
– provide mentorship, knowledge and skill transfer to other staff
– be challenged physically and mentally as you live in an overnight camp or wilderness setting for 10 day sessions, with 2 days of break in between
– learn that the challenge is also rewarding, and will experience personal growth alongside the campers you are supporting

Lead Wilderness Counsellor

Description: 

You will …

– support the successful execution of multi-day wilderness trip experiences, connecting them back to the program outcomes
– support the successful execution of trip logistics including , pack-out, pack-in, menu selection, and participate in equipment maintenance (repair and replacement) practices
– encourage camper development at their own pace recognizing their achievements
– respond appropriately when addressing challenging camper behaviours as they arise
– model healthy choices and emotional maturity
– identify, assess and appropriately manage risks and off-site crises in line with risk management standards
– provide mentorship, knowledge and skill transfer to other staff
– be challenged physically and mentally as you live in an overnight camp and wilderness setting for 10 day sessions, with 2 days of break in between
– have the opportunity to experience personal growth alongside the campers you are supporting
