Job Summary

The Field of Interest (FOI) Advisor serves as the point person for assigned students who are enrolled at CLC within a designated FOI. The FOI Advisor has an established caseload of students and is responsible for providing a personalized, culturally relevant experience for each student from their first day of classes through credential attainment and career or transfer transition. Responsibilities include case management, academic advising, transfer guidance, career exploration and planning, financial planning, and support service referrals.

Required Qualification

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, education, communications or related area.
  2. Experience in a higher education institution, secondary education, and/or human services agency.
  3. Ability to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend hours consistent with student needs.
  1. Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, computer (word processing, internet, email) and organizational skills.
  2. Ability to plan and prioritize work requirements and demonstrate independent decision-making capabilities.
  3. Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrated sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree in psychology, education, communications or related area.
  2. Experience working with community college, under-prepared, and/or underrepresented students.
  3. Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Work Schedule  Primary hours: Monday-Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm; minimum of one evening shift per week, 11 am-7:30 pm; occasional Saturday hours
