Licensed Practical Nurse (FT), Global Empire LLC – Pine Knot, KY

We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), for an available contract opportunity at USP McCreary located in Pine Knot, Kentucky, in the Health Services Department.

Place of Performance: Health Services Department, USP McCreary located in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Work Hours: The contractor will normally work, Monday thru Friday (except Federal holidays), normally between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, with a thirty (30) minute unpaid lunch period. The Licensed Practical Nursing schedules shall not exceed forty (40) hours per week.

Period of Performance: The contract period will be in effect from the effective date of hire through 120 working days, with the possibility of extending the contract for an additional 120 days, upon acceptable performance and all state reviews and approvals.

Basic Scope of Work (includes but it is not limited to): The duties of this position require frequent direct contact with individuals in confinement who are convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States.

The contractor shall be responsible for, but not limited to:

  1. Providing direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff;
  2. Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure;
  3. Administer medications as prescribed i.e., by mouth, intradermally, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly;
  4. Assist with distribution of medications at pill line;
  5. Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy;
  6. Perform skin testing;
  7. Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining laboratory specimens;
  8. Record and document patient care activities on appropriate records such as health history;
  9. Record diagnostic testing, i.e., venipuncture for laboratory studies, visual acuity testing, EKGs (per instructions from mid-level practitioners or physicians);
  10. Process lab work to include filing on a daily basis. Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and JACHO policy. Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal lad values and notify the physician or physicians);
  11. Ensure all sharps are secured, accounted for, stored and disposed of according to institutional and national policy;
  12. Assist the mid-level practitioners and physicians in the management and oversight of chronic care clinics;
  13. Review clinical records to ensure data is entered legibly and in the appropriate section of the medical record;
  14. Possess knowledge of treatment of chronic health problems, i.e., hypertension, diabetes, and asthma;
  15. Initiate emergency care as needed according to community standards;
  16. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality;
  17. Adhere to infection control policies and procedures;
  18. Ability and skill to operate EKG and laboratory equipment;
  19. Possess knowledge of mental health disorders and have the ability to screen for gross mood changes;
  20. Ability to provide basic first aid, prevention care, and guidance in treating a variety of common illnesses/injuries; and
  21. Perform duties as required, but accept only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with his/her educational preparation, training, experience, and nursing licensure laws.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

License: Shall have and maintain an active, valid, current, unrestricted State of Kentucky license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in a US jurisdiction.

Education: Must have, as a minimum, a current LPN certificate from an accredited national, state or military trained equivalent school.

Life Saving Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is desired.
