STUDENT PASTOR

– Job Description

Overview Calvary Church is seeking a spiritually mature and experienced Student Pastor. The leadership at Calvary Church desires an individual whose calling and character inspires others to look toward Christ. Though loving students is important, it is critical that this candidate be effective in all aspects of student ministry. The primary responsibilities of the Student Pastor include:

1) Building relationships with students and their families while pointing them to Jesus.

2) Loving and equipping parents to engage in their teen’s spiritual growth.

3) Recruiting and training volunteers to make followers who make followers of Jesus.

Education

* College degree required. Graduation from a Christian school or seminary preferred.

Experience

* Experience working with middle and/or high school students is required. Three years of experience with these age groups is preferred in a church or parachurch setting.

Job Responsibilities

* Oversee all elements of student ministry (middle and high school) including but not limited to Sunday morning and evening ministries, student discipleship, church-wide events and special student events.

* Teach the Word of God to students in a way that challenges them to follow the Lord and to grow in the knowledge and wisdom of Him.

* Develop a strong, loving, fun, accepting and caring relationship with students.

* Identify, develop, utilize and nurture student leaders.

* Recruit, schedule, prepare, oversee, encourage and train student ministry adult volunteers.

* Collaborate with ministry staff and adult leaders to develop a comprehensive vision for student ministry.

* Develop a discipleship process and curriculum that builds maturity and helps students become lifelong followers of Jesus and servants in the Church.

* Set measurable goals of learning for various ages of ministry using appropriate curriculum in conjunction with supervisor and Children’s Pastor.

* Create and implement an outreach strategy that equips and leads students to share what they know with their friends and family.

* Provide an environment and plan for all aspects of safety including but not limited to food allergies, security and emergency preparedness.

* Provide mission opportunities for students to serve with others and use their individual gifts and passions.

* Establish a positive presence and good relationships with the local schools.

* Encourage and meet regularly with parents nurturing their ability to disciple their students as they mature in their faith.

* Develop annual ministry plan and budget for student ministry.

* Perform duties and attend meetings as specified by direct supervisor and/or Lead Pastor.

Personal Qualities

* Competency in and a growing knowledge of Christian doctrine.

* Understanding of how to present the Gospel message to students of all ages as well as an understanding of how students of various ages are capable of responding.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

* Strong delegation skills.

* Openness to on-going personal and spiritual development.

* Ability to work in a team setting.

* Receptivity to relevant feedback from supervisor, Lead Pastor, volunteer adult leaders, parents of students and students.

* A deep, abiding, on-going relationship and walk with Christ and a heart for others.

* Exhibits humility, approachability, strength and integrity.

About Calvary Church

Who We Are

Calvary is a place for people to find an authentic, relevant worship experience and practical Biblical teaching. It is a “come as you are” church where people are welcome to dress up or dress down. Worship at Calvary is centered on Christ. Authentic, engaging, and Christ-centered programming is offered to middle school students on Sunday mornings from 10 – 11:30 am. Our high school students meet every Sunday night from 6 – 8 pm. Calvary has a unique opportunity to draw in students from several

different school districts. We have teams of college age and adult leaders who share responsibilities of leading small group break out times and connecting with students throughout the week. As of January 2019, we are averaging 700 in worship, 60 middle school student and 40 high school students weekly. We have a student leadership team of 10 students who help to implement the vision of our student ministry and provide insight and feedback to leaders. In addition to Sunday programming, our students attend retreats, camps, and other spiritual formation and relationship building activities throughout the year.

Where We Are Located

Calvary Church is located in northwestern West Lafayette, Indiana, in Tippecanoe County. West Lafayette is bordered on its eastern side by I-65, and is about 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis and 120 miles southeast of Chicago. The school systems are consistently ranked among the top in the state. Purdue University, with an enrollment of around 40,000 students, is also located in West Lafayette and has one of the highest percentage enrollments of international students of public universities in the U.S. The area is economically diverse and includes farming, heavy industry (Subaru, Caterpillar, Wabash National, Arconic, Tate and Lyle, Nanshan America and others), as well as higher education (Purdue and Ivy Tech Community College).
