CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University is hosting a “Get Out and Vote” Political Forum Thursday, Sept. 30 when local candidates will be featured as well as Trey Grayson, Kentucky’s secretary of state, who will speak at The Gheens Recital Hall, 210 University Drive, Campbellsville. The forum is from 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Max Wise, assistant professor of political science, and the Rev. John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president, will moderate the event which is open to the public.
Grayson will speak on the importance of voting as well as touch base on voting fraud. He will also be interviewed on Chowning’s
“Dialogue on Public Issues” show.
This will be an open forum that will allow the candidates to be formally recognized and to speak about themselves and their campaign platform.
All local candidates who are running for office will be recognized at the event; however, only the following political offices will be given time to speak about themselves. Those include the following office candidates: mayor, county judge/executive, sheriff, jailer, property value administrator (PVA) and District Judge 11th District 2nd Division.
Invitations have also been sent to the candidates for United States Senate and United States Congress 2nd District. Representatives from the Kentucky State Democrat Party and Kentucky State Republican Party will be present to speak as well.
Students as well as community members will be able to register to vote at the event or sign up for absentee ballots.
“[Grayson] has been a friend of Mr. Wise and me, among many others on campus, for a number of years,” Chowning said.
“His purpose at the forum is to encourage people to get out to vote for the candidates of choice, to make informed decisions based on the issues, to note that the elections are being monitored very closely this year in Kentucky to make certain that election laws are followed and that election fraud is minimized.”
CU Collegiate Historians, the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Pre-Law Society are sponsoring the political forum.
