Chief Political Correspondent for CBN News to speak at CU KHIPP

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – David Brody, chief political correspondent for CBN News, will be speaking at Kentucky Heartland Institute on Public Policy’s (KHIPP) event Tuesday, March 20 in the afternoon and also at chapel early the next morning.

Brody, who is an Emmy-winning veteran news journalist, will speak at KHIPP at 5 p.m. March 20 in the Banquet Hall of the Badgett Academic Support Center at 110 University Drive, Campbellsville, and at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21 in Ransdell Chapel, located at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.

Both events are free and open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Brody will speak on “Presidential Politics 2012: The Latest News” at the KHIPP event.

“David Brody brings tremendous knowledge and expertise to our KHIPP forum as we discuss the current presidential election cycle in 2012,” John Chowning, founder of KHIPP, said.

“He has interviewed all or most of the major political leaders on the American political scene and is well informed on the political process, issues and individuals involved at the highest level of American politics.”

Chowning, who is vice president for church and external relations at CU as well as serving as executive assistant to the president, said Brody “brings a Christian perspective to the practice of his award-winning journalist and broadcast skills.”

Chowning said Brody, in his chapel address, “will be challenging all of us – students, faculty, staff and the public – to integrate our Christian faith into every facet of our lives. This is a message we allmust heed.”

Brody has covered many of the major stories of the past decade or two.

He has made several appearances on CNN, Fox News, NPR and MSNBC. He travels around America interviewing national newsmakers including the Republican candidates running for United States president in 2012.

He has interviewed many prominent national figures during his career of nearly 25 years. Some of the people he has conducted one-on-one interviews with include: Barack Obama, Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Tim Kaine, Michael Steele, Harry Reid, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney.

Brody’s political blog, The Brody File, has been featured in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post. He also offers weekly political analysis for CNN and has appeared frequently as a roundtable panelist on NBC’s Meet The Press.

Throughout the years, Brody has covered numerous important news events, including the 2008 Presidential debate, the Virginia Tech massacre, the 2006 midterm elections, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the 2004 Democratic and Republican National Conventions, the Oklahoma City bombing and the 1996 Olympics.

He has traveled to Kaktovik, Alaska to cover the story of oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He has also been to Mexico and Yuma, Ariz., where he rode along with U.S. Border Patrol to detail the nation’s immigration crisis.

Brody has worked as news director at ABC affiliate KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs, Colo., and has produced special projects, stories and shows in the major markets of Washington, D.C., (WUSA-TV) and Denver (KUSA-TV).

He also won an Emmy Award for producing the top newscast in Colorado Springs in 1989. He joined CBN News in 2003.

Brody was raised in New York City, and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in communications from Ithaca College in 1988. He is married with three children.
