Campbellsville University to Host President of Kentucky Baptist Convention at Chapel Sept. 9

Dr. John Mark TobyCAMPBELLSVILLE, KY — Dr. John Mark Toby, president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention and pastor of Beacon Hill Baptist Church in Somerset, Ky., is scheduled to speak at Campbellsville University’s chapel service, Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009.

Chapel service will be at 10 a.m. in the Ransdell Chapel on Campbellsville University’s campus at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.

Toby also serves on Campbellsville University’s Church Relations Council.

Toby has served as pastor at Beacon Hill Baptist Church since October 1999, and he has served as chaplain/lieutenant colonel for the Kentucky Army National Guard since 1983.

Toby has been pastor at First Baptist Church in Fairdale, Ky., associate pastor and principal at Ninth & O Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky., mission pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky., and pastor at Hedgeville Baptist Church in Danville, Ky.

Toby was licensed as a pastor in 1985 and was ordained at First Baptist Church in Somerset, Ky., in 1987.

Toby received his doctor of ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary in 1992 and master of divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1987. He received his bachelor of science in recreation and park administration with an emphasis in programming and a minor in religion and was an ROTC distinguished military graduate from Eastern Kentucky University in 1984.

He graduated from The Command and General Staff College with the United States Army in 2000. Toby received his certificate in business administration from the University of Kentucky in 2007 and a Kentucky real estate license in 1991. He is also a 1980 graduate of Somerset High School.

Toby serves as first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention until 2010. He has served in various capacities with the SBC and the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

Toby and his wife, Cathy Ann, have a son named Daniel. The family resides in Somerset, Ky.

Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through of a variety of informative speakers and presentations.

All chapel events are open to the public free of charge.

All chapel programs are also televised live on WLCU-TV-4 (Comcast Cable channel 10) and are streamed live on the Internet.
